A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words

by Niki Wyre

The old adage “A picture is worth a thousand words” comes best to mind when Wego gave us this picture prompt to blog about in the Health Activist Writers Month Challenge.  Welcome to day 5 of thirty posts in thirty days. We were told to make an Ekphrasis post.

What is Ekphrasis? Ekphrasis or ecphrasis is the graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art. In ancient times it referred to a description of any thing, person, or experience. The word comes from the Greek ek and phrasis, ‘out’ and ‘speak’ respectively, verb ekphrazein, to proclaim or call an inanimate object by name.

So I was truly inspired by this beautiful sunset picture at the beach. The first thing that came to mind is something I like to say a lot. Tomorrow is a new day. You have a bad day, break your favorite dishes, cheat on your diet…. it’s okay. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start. We often hang on to the past or dwell on what may happen in the future.

My biggest mental change this year was to live in the now. I’m learning to let go of things from the past that I cannot change. I’m learning to not worry about what my health conditions may do in the future as they progress or what will happen in 5 or 10 years. I’m more about the present whether it’s today, next week, next month or the new year. I’m setting small goals for myself to reach along the way.

This picture reminds me that each day, whether bad or good, has a beautiful sunset. The sunrise brings a fresh new day. Enjoy the little things in life that make us happy, the small accomplishments or victories we have. Just remember, tomorrow is a new day.

So what did this picture bring to mind for you? Were you inspired from it’s beauty? Check out the other month challenge blogs here.

Wishing you all a wonderful day and an even better tomorrow. (((Pain-free internet hugs)))
