[Member Discussions and Questions] Knot Between Hands and Wrists?

December 11

One Chick wants to know:

I’m wondering how many chicks have a knot on the inside top of the area between their hands and wrists that hurts like a beep. I feel like it’s the reason why I can’t straighten my hands anymore and they’re heading off at a weird outward angle from my wrists. Is this normal? I just noticed it within the last month or so. How fast did theirs develop? What the heck is it? Thanks!

Thank you in advance for your input and sharing your experiences to help answer this members question. (((pain-free internet hugs)))

What our members have said so far:

Nicole – Probably a cyst or is it hard?

Rana – I had that once…a bone protruding from my wrist other than the wrist bone. It’s inflammation… mine went away with an injection but I think it came about because a physio was playing around with my wrist. Have you been having any physio work on your wrist lately?

Kathy – You know I have had cysts too and most of them have been hard & painful…mine eventually went away. I have had them show up several times over the years.

Lori – Www.orthopaedics.com.sg/conditions/hand-pain/ganglion-of-the-wrist
Ganglion of the Wrist

Lori – Likely a ganglion cysts, fairly common and removable!

Donna-Rae – Nodules? I have them on the outside of both wrists. Mine don’t hurt though. Just look gross.

Kristina – All the time. But not after my infusion.

Tammy – I have a large ganglion cyst in both wrists on that exact area. Sometimes they get extremely painful. You can get them drained.

Kisha – Maybe rheumatoid nodule? I had one that just appeared on my right hand last week.

Melissa – If it is soft it is more than likely a ganglion cyst. I have had SEVERAL of them since being diagnosed with RA. All of mine have went away on their own but my dr has often times wanted to drain them. I just opted to give it time and let it go away on its own. But….they can be very painful….mine always are. See your doc and let him determine what it is.

Beverly – I was wondering if it’s a ganglion cyst.

Rebel – I had a ganglion cyst but it went away on its own.

Lexie – I had soft ones and hard around the undersides of toes, mid. joint on palm and wrists the first several years after diagnosis, very painful which 7yrs. 10mo. I don’t get them any longer now I just feel my wrists twisting out and my fingers pulling out wards, also my ankles are twisting out, my soles are turning in and up…mostly my left side…very upsetting to notice your body twisting…left leg has shortened 2″

Kim – Mine are soft ones, they called them nodules, although I know other people’s get hard. Tell your doc about it, he should be able to help. Mine finally went away with a little bit higher meds. They seem to come up in the winter most of the time. Almost never have them in summer.

Krys – The come and go for me, at the wrist and where the fingers meet the palm of my hand.

Melanie – Yes, They are called rheumatoid nodules. Mine have never left. taking humira inj. every week.

Caren – I have the knots you describe on both my hands. I’ve considered it to be inflammation from extended time typing on the computer, but after reading these comments I may have to get them checked out!

Kelly – I have had them for a few years now.

June – Yes a wee little one on my left wrist but boy oh boy touch it and it hurts.

Vinicia – I have them on the inside of my wrist…

Melissa – Yes many while pregnant & nursing!! Try Epsom soaks in hot bath.

Danielle – I have them..they dx a ganglion cyst ..later realized they were rheumatoid nodules but by that time my wrist were unable to bend.

Catrina – I’m having some pretty severe problems with both my wrists. I hurt them in the most ridiculous of ways. Picking up a coffee cup….cooking spaghetti …

Jojo – RA nodules maybe? and RA does disfigure and deform the hands etc..

Iola – true. mine are the same

Rebecca – My right wrist has a nodule and fingers slant. The nod has gotten bigger and hurts like hell when I bump it. I haven’t been able to bend my right wrist in years, now the left side is frozen to.

Tonya – That’s one of the things that was happening to me when I first discovered I had RA. It comes & goes but it still hurts.

Karen – I have nine cysts from my wrist down according to my last cat scan. As long as I keep moving my hands they are not very deformed. Have had RA over 25 years. They are not nodules. Look up cystic RA.. Keep moving no matter how much they hurt. I also have cysts in other joints and Bakers cysts behind each knee.

Holly – Yes, they come and go…had them 15 yrs. now

Deseree – sounds like a ganglion cyst

Trina – I think nodules. I had one on my elbow. They removed it. I couldn’t open my car door or turn on the ignition. Now i have it on my other elbow. It looks gross. That one don’t hurt as bad yet.

Stephanie – I feel you! Same thing here.

Terry – That’s how I first noticed my RA. Anytime I don’t take my prednisone, I get that lump and it makes me hand turn inwards and I can’t use that hand. It’s like it has no strength and I have no muscle there.

Dee – SAME HERE I ADVICE U A LITTLE SOMETHING THAT I KNOW WILL HELP U A BIT TELL UR DOC ABOUT U GETTING OT AND PT THERAPY I MIGHT NEED A HAND AND WRIST BRACE

Carol – Got one too, it wakes me up at night burning. A real pain in the rear.

Patricia – has your Doc seen it? have you gone to OT for it?

MaryColleen – Doc saw it today. It’s hard like bone and about the size of a half dollar between my thumb joint, wrist, and pointer finger. She thinks it’s a nodule.

Reiko – Yes i feel you too (/ _ ; ). Mine are outside on the wrists and growing too sometimes they hurt but more like the the whole wrist area is hurting most of the time and they are getting weaker over the time…

Michelle – My wrist actually started turning and that bone that is on the left side of my wrist was in the center of my wrist. It was beginning to cut my tendons, so I had to have surgery to have it removed otherwise I would have lost function in my fingers if it cut my tendons all the way. The doctor was able to strengthen the tendons but they are not repairable.

Michelle – And my hands from my wrist are at an angle to my left now.

Helen – Yes I have many, ganglion cysts. About 20 lumps up each arm. I also have them in my toes. I also have liquid filled “lumps” hanging off my elbows. My dr. says all symptoms of RA.

Anneke – Have one on the inside wrist of right hand. first was told it was ganglion cyst, then it changed and they say it is a fatty tumor. Has to be RA related….

Jenny – I had it too on right inside wrist –hurts so much. I can use that hand pretty much. Sorry for all of you

Catherine – I have a ganglion cyst as indicated above. Mine is on my dominant hand (right) and it hurts from time to time. It bulges out too. So far no ganglion on the left side. I haven’t done anything about it.

Michelle – Got one, it hurts like hell!

Dawn – If the pain is too intense make sure you actually see a surgeon. Mine started with fluid. When I couldn’t take the pain anymore they made me see a surgeon. The surgery revealed the fluid in my wrists was eating through the bone not something you want to hear when you wake up from surgery. initially thought it was a ganglion cyst. although it was a pretty good indication to my surgeon that something wasn’t right when literally one popped up the night before surgery in my knuckles

Lisa – take a picture of it to show your rheumy. I say this because when I think “i should show the doctor this” It hides

Elviera – oh girls. . . .this all sounds sooo scary!!!!

Yasuko – Sounds like the same one (soft cyst with fluid which has an intense pain) I have on my right elbow for years, and my elbow bends outwards so my right arm cannot be straightened. I haven’t done anything by far as it hasn’t changed in shape or size and I did not have insurance until recently, but I (I mean, I let my rheumy) will do something eventually since it just hurts badly. Reading other’s comments I’m convinced this is definitely related to RA. Thank you for bringing this up.

Angela – Sounds like a cyst or synovitis I think it’s called, when immune attacks the synovial fluid in the carpal tunnel. I have flares of that occasionally. It’s more like a hard bump from swelling though. If it moves around when you push on it, it could be a cyst.

Patty – I have pea sized “lumps” on the tendons of my fingers that are getting progressively bigger. And very hard lumps on the outside of my fingers on the joints. I can no longer get my rings over fingers that I could this time last year. And I’m noticing my fingers are starting to veer off to the side. They ache.
