[All About RA] My Autoimmune Arthritis Health Time Capsule

autoimmune arthritis time capsule hope for the future rheumatoid arthritisMy Autoimmune Arthritis Health Time Capsule

by Niki Wyre

If you were to make a time capsule to be opened a hundred years from now, in 2112, what would you want to include? How do you think the openers would react or reflect on the items? This was a great blog prompt by Wego Health‘s “The Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge “. Be ready for even more interesting blogs to follow for the month of April. I have accepted their challenge of 30 blogs in 30 days. If you would like to participate, please check out their Facebook page or their daily blog for updates.

So after much reflection on this topic and thinking for quite a bit on what would I would include in a hundred year time capsule to reflect not only my health issues but to represent all of those with Autoimmune Arthritis, like Rheumatoid Arthritis, I came up with these items:

– A collection of our blogs and stories on our Autoimmune Arthritis journeys.

– An album of our pictures of the damage of Autoimmune Arthrits.

– Books on personal stories of those battling Rheumatoid Arthritis and other Autoimmune Arthritis conditions.

– Enclosed section of medical journal with specifications and guidelines for diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis and other Autoimmune Arthritis conditions.

– Sealed container of a biologic, methotrexate, prednisone and antiinflammatories to represent our treatments.

– A RA Chicks logo to represent that we will never give up.

– A small collection of topical treatments like biofreeze, penetran, icyhot etc.

– A heating pad.

– An ice pack.

– Arthritis gloves.

– Orthopedic shoes.

– Jar opener.

IAAM bracelet.

– Rheumatoid Arthritis awareness ribbon.

– Copies of legislation for arthritis funding and support.

The spoon theory by Christine Miserandino.

– A kids get arthritis too pamphlet signed by JA advocates

– Raise your hand against arthritis foam hand.

– Pamphlets from all nonprofits in arthritis and autoimmune arthritis

– A joint replacement (unused of course)

– My Screw RA mousepad

– A letter to openers describing the impact Autoimmune Arthritis has had on its sufferers and our hope for a cure.
I would like to think by the year 2112, we will have had a cure or even a preventive treatment to prevent future generations from undergoing what we battle daily. I would love to think our children and children’s children will look back and think of it as ancient history that was cured. I would hope the time capsule would accurately document our adversities, perseverance and hope for the future while portraying our daily lives. Imagine a future where RA does not exist or it is as curable with a simple medication or procedure.

What do you think? What would you want included in a time capsule? How do you think the future would react to our time capsule?
