One of our members invites you to walk a mile in her shoes:
Q: Current Age?
A: 28
Q: Age of Onset or start of symptoms?
A: 25
Q: Age of Diagnosis?
A: 27
Q: Where are you located?
A: St. Louis, Missouri
Q: What is your profession?
A: Student
Q: What are your Medical Conditions or diagnoses?
A: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Eczema, and Major Depression (currently in remission)
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Reading, writing poetry, exercising, browsing Deviant Art, Facebook, reading Cracked.com, and studying (it seriously feels like a hobby since I spend so much time doing it)
Q: What is one thing your doctor didn’t tell you about your Autoimmune Arthritis that you wish they had?
A: Your body may not be able to handle dairy products any more.
Q: If you could tell your past self something before diagnosis, what would it be?
A: They figure out what it is! Keep hanging in there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Q: What would you like to tell others newly diagnosed with Autoimmune Arthritis?
A: You are not alone; there are others who understand what you are going through because they have been there. If you can’t find anyone in your local area then get online, there are tons of groups for support. Also go to RAWarrior.com, it is a great informational website.
Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: Poor. I’m a college student with all my money going to bills; I don’t have money to have a style. Right now I’m wearing jeans with t-shirts. What my actual style is is a gothy 50s.
Q: What part of dealing with your Autoimmune Arthritis has made the biggest impact on you?
A: Learning how to change my eating habits. I can’t do any dairy at all anymore and I have had to change all my meals around. No eggs for breakfast, no cheese on sandwiches, no cereal, it has been a huge learning experience. Let’s just say that vegetables are my new best friend.
Q: Favorite quote?
A: I have two. The first one is from the Princess Bride. “Death cannot stop true love. It can only delay it for a while.” The other one is “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”
Q: What are three random things about yourself that others may not know?
A: I love the darker aspect of things and thoroughly enjoy reading about the dark side of history. I am probably the brightest goth you will ever meet. I love colors, especially bright colors. I am a bibliophile.
